One of Hollywood's most famous costume designers was Edith Head. She dressed many of the great and most glamorous actresses of her day and won eight academy awards doing it. Edith Head was almost as famous as the stars who wore her beautiful designs. She died in 1981 but is still remembered for her contribution to the advancement of the craft and artistry of costume design. She is quoted for saying:
"What a costume designer does is a cross between magic and camouflage. We create the illusion of changing the actors into what they are not."
Politics, Film and Art Converge tonight at #Tiff16
"The Journey is the Destination" is a Gala film being screened tonight, 6:30pm, at Roy Thomson Hall. The frank biopic is based on the journals of Dan Eldon, a photojournalist, artist and activist who was killed documenting famine and war in Somalia. He was just 22.
Today is #Tiff16 Day 5. Monday. But, what a fabulous weekend it was here at the Windsor Arms Hotel. The weekend started early for us on Friday morning when we hosted the Hollywood Suite annual breakfast. Saturday night the Windsor Arms Hotel was celebrity central with some of the biggest names in Hollywood here for the annual InStyle/Hollywood Foreign Press Association bash.
The countdown is on. You can see signs of the transformation from cowtown to glamourtown happening right now. Red carpets are being rolled out. And, new billboards are going up. Spotlights are strategically placed and there's a gazillion limos lining up for car washes. This can only mean one thing... tiff is back for another 10 days of star spotting, great film and even some movie magic.
Another sign summer is almost over is when you start seeing mannequins wearing wool, plaid and tweed. Heavy coats and suede boots. This window transition starts happening around the second week of August. Its like your spidey sense has kicked in and you feel the urge to shop.. So what will the fashionistas be wearing this fall? The Windsor Arms Hotel is right in the heart of Toronto's most luxurious shopping district, just off Bloor Street. And, from what we can see gracing the windows along designer row..
